Join Dr. Olga Pozdnyakova of Penn Medicine as she shares how her laboratory reduced unnecessary manual smear reviews by refining review criteria using existing CBC parameters. Through a real-world case study, participants will gain practical strategies to improve review specificity, reduce technologist workload, enhance turnaround times, and focus resources on clinically significant findings without compromising quality. Discover actionable insights that can be applied in your own laboratory to drive operational excellence and streamline hematology workflows.

Participants who attend the webinar will be eligible to earn continuing education (CE) credit. Register today to learn from one of the nation’s leading hematopathology programs and gain practical approaches to improving laboratory efficiency and patient care.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this webinar, participants will be able to:

  • Describe the impact of CBC analyzer flagging on manual smear review workload and laboratory operations.
  • Assess how laboratory-specific smear review criteria can improve clinical relevance while maintaining quality standards.
  • Evaluate the use of platelet count and mean platelet volume (MPV) parameters to optimize smear review practices and reduce unnecessary manual reviews.
  • Establish strategies for defining clinically meaningful smear review criteria
